Daydreams for Night

Author: John Southworth

Illustrator: David Ouimet

Publisher: Simply Read Books

Comments: I’m reviewing this picture book for older readers over at the NSW Writer’s Centre blog today. It’s a little heavier than the titles I usually review (!!) and while it is not suitable for younger children, it may be of interest to teachers in Stage 3 and beyond. CLICK HERE to go to the NSW Writer’s Centre blog.

Daydreams for Night will be enjoyed by fans of Shaun Tan, and can be favourably compared to Chris van Allsburg’s The Mysteries of Harris Burdick. It is not a picture book for younger readers, but an eccentric collection of images and imaginings for those who enjoy something a little darker.

You can get a feel for the book in the following trailer. The Daydreams for Night website is also an interesting read, and is a useful resource for teachers.

*I received a review copy of Daydreams for Night courtesy of NSW Writer’s Centre. No payment was received for review and all comments are based on my own professional opinion.
