Looking for a poem to set the tone in your classroom? Feel free to use Seas of Learning on the first day of school for 2015. I wrote it just for you. You can simply read it aloud, or print it out (pdf link below) and put it on your classroom door, or display it on your Interactive White Board. Whatever works for you. If you want to use the poem as a springboard for a week 1 activity, I have also included some follow on questions and activities below.
Of course, I’d love to hear from you if you use it. You can leave a comment here or on facebook, or tweet me @squigglebooks.
If you would prefer to download the pdf file for printing click here -> SeasOfLearning
Follow on questions:
- Everyone in our classroom crew is good at something. What are you good at?
- What does “to learn to learn together” mean? What might that look like in our classroom?
- Name one thing you wish you could learn about in 2015.
- What does it mean to “chart a course”? Draw an imaginary map with oceans and islands. Label the Sea of Learning. What would you name the other islands on your map? Would you visit all of them? Why or why not?
I love your poem Cath. It’s perfect for the first day of school. Your new blog looks fantastic too!
